Honoring the Solstice

The Summer Solstice is here.  It is a
time of joyful celebration for the turning seasons and times of the
year.  It is also a reminder that all things do and must pass, and to
celebrate each new day as it comes.

The beginning of summer marks
the longest day of the year.  It is a beginning and also an ending, for
it ends the lengthening of days and they begin to shorten, instead.

Summer
is a time to bask in the sunshine, and allow others to bask in your
sunshine, too.  It is a time to enjoy the outdoors, allowing the sun to
nourish you through the skin and the eyes, but remembering to shield
yourself, too.  Not with poisons, but rather with shade and good sense!
There are also plants you can use.  Another lesson for another time.
But don’t be afraid to go outdoors in the moderate times of the day.  It
is one of the best things you can do for your health!  Summer is all
about soaking it in!  Plants would not grow without sun.  We are made
for sun, too.

AND WATER!  Summer is about getting into the
water!  Jumping right in and splashing around!  Remember to splash water
around on your insides, as well, for the summer sun can bring
dehydration about, which is much, much more common than most people
think.  Drink a LOT of water during the summer months!

But I
digressed from the topic…the topic is the changes that summer brings.
But did I digress?  I think perhaps not, because Spring, which has now
passed once again, is full of water, water, water everywhere coming down
from the sky!  That has passed and a much drier time has begun.

Twice
a year there is a magical moment when time stands still as the earth is
closest (summer) and farthest away (winter) from the sun.  Equinox is
when the days and nights are equal, and this also happens two times a
year.

You see, many people think these events are part of some
“hocus pocus,” but actually they are in the Original Design!  Seasons
change with the movement of the earth orbiting around the sun, and
seasons change within us, as well.  We move towards our point of highest
energy until we reach the point when it’s time to bask and then absorb
all the color of autumn and wrap ourselves in winter’s deep night.  This
happens no matter what climate we live in.  It’s simply a process of
life.  Just as surely as summer comes, autumn and winter will follow,
but then
again will come spring and summer again.  We are half-way through the
process this year!

In the southern hemisphere they’re
celebrating Winter Solstice right now!  Isn’t that something?!  Balance
in all things.  What is at one point here is at an opposite point at the
opposite point.  There are magnetic principles involved.  We celebrate
the earth’s magnetic energy field and the magnetic energy field in each
of us.

Celebrating these holidays is a way of reminding ourselves
that WE are a part of the great circle of life.  We are all connected.
We are all under the influence of the same sun and moon, and we are all
in the hands of God, however we choose to view God.  When we look at
the Great Design, we have to realize that we’re part of something MUCH
bigger than us.  And yet, we are all made of the same stuff…this
“stuff” which is made in the image of God.

One of the things
Summer Solstice represents is a time to reflect on where we stand on our
goals for the year.  It is our half-way point.  In that moment when
time stands still we have the opportunity of seeing equally behind us
and ahead of us.  It’s a good time to evaluate how far we’ve come and to
realize that’s how far we’ve yet to go on the goals for the year.  It
gives us a chance to adjust.  It’s a time of summer vacation for body,
mind and spirit!  Then return refreshed, relaxed and ready to go.

These
celebrations are thought by some to be worship of the sun rather than
worship of God.  I suppose that depends on your definition of God.  To
me, God is the Source of All that there is.  In fact, God IS all that
there is!  So, this, to me, is a celebration of GOD!  God is Love, God
is Good, God is Life!  Celebrate the seasons with us.  Celebrate your
oneness with nature…with God.  Celebrate your oneness with all of
life.  Celebrate choices, new beginnings and that which passes away.
This is a time to celebrate the peak of the sun’s power throughout the
year.  Through honoring this, it is also a heightened time of
illumination in us.  It’s all part of the Plan!

People have been
observing the solstice since the beginning of time and forming
traditions around this astrological event.  It is a powerful time for
that reason alone if not any other, but we do know that the sun and the
moon affect us on earth, do we not?

So in looking at our goals
for the year here at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center,
let’s see how far we’ve come by this halfway point.  We’ve finished
Phase 1 of the renovations for our meeting space, which in itself was a
miracle in action, for sure!  Thank you so much to all who helped!  The
outside will be Phase 2, with Phase 3 being go back and finish the
little things up from phase 1 and 2!  Be sure and get on the volunteer
list!  If you took part in Phase 1, you already know it will be lots of
fun!

Back to our list of goals…we readied our meeting space
with just a few things left to do on the inside…nothing that can’t be
done over time.  We held our Dedication Celebration!  That was a LOT of
fun and VERY worthwhile!  So many wonderful healing smiles came together
over the weekend!  It was a remendous success!  We have also added Rev.
Holly Rowley as our Director of Worship Services!  That’s a huge
success for us already this year!  Plus our team of associate ministers
hasve been becoming a more active part of our team, which is great!  Kim
Castle came to visit, Joanne Cooper is coming and sharing, plus others
have volunteered to give presentations for us!  We’ve been holding
regular classes and special events, in addition to our weekly service
and keeping up with this weekly message, as well.  It’s been a fabulous
year to this point!  Lots of healing energy!

Now at the
mid-point, I am here asking for help at the summer
solstice, for the stability of our church.  We need help in meeting our
goals for the rest of the year.  We need help in the way of volunteers,
and we need help in the way of financial donations.  For the next half
of the year our goals include things like being able to put on retreats,
dinners, events, classes, workshops, and provide services that are not
affordable in other places or even available.  We offer true holistic
healing services here, led by Spirit, to bring the mind and the body
into alignment through natural means.  We are teaching people to teach
people to teach.  We are giving folk medicine back to the folks.  We are
working with people, animals, and the environment.  We are working
together in healing the world!  We wish to provide services to those in need no matter how much they can afford.

If there is anyone out there who
is reading this who would like to take part in our volunteer program, or
if you’re looking for how to make a donation, please contact us at
eolhec@aol.com or write to us at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment
Center, 214 S. Prospect Ave., Hartville, Ohio 44632.  Thank you very
much.  Thank you, too, to all who were able to join us at our
celebration on Saturday.  I’m writing this before the event, but it’s
sure to be a great time.  We’re planning on starting a labyrinth that
night along with some other things to remind us how sacred everything
is.  (Yes, EVERYTHING, for that’s what God IS!)

Probably the
biggest goal we have yet to finish this year is that of meeting the
State requirements to declare ourselves a Church and separate from
State.  Anyone with expertise in this area please let us know if you’re
willing to help!  Our Board meetings are the first Monday each month,
and anyone interested is welcome to come.  We meet at 6 p.m. for dinner
and the meeting follows at 7:15.  (Raw vegan dinner…yum yum!)

So,
look around your own life.  Where do you stand on your goals for the
year?  The wheel of time is turning, and it will be winter again before
we know where the summer has gone.  Take a moment to reassess and take
stock.  Take a moment, too, to realize our oneness with all other
beings.  There is a time and a purpose for everything.

Time.
It passes yet it does not exist, but for our own movement around the
sun.  For one brief moment two times a year, it stands still.  Don’t we
all have that wish?  Let’s celebrate this moment of stillness in Love!
Stillness is the true place of God.  Stillness is where healing occurs.
Learn to celebrate the solstice every day in your heart.

“Be still and know I am God!”  (Psalm 46:10)

My mother’s birthday is coming up on July 1st.  Frances Elizabeth
Eshelman was a cornerstone in founding this church.  This video is
dedicated to her and speaks today’s message quite well.  I give you, “Turn, Turn, Turn,” by the Byrds, inspired by the following passage from the Bible:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.  He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.  I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.  And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God.  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.  That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:1-15)
